I am climber in Kenya and your site is very informative.
I am browsing your site with some climbers.

David's list to share...

  • Back pack for personal gear

  • Day pack

  • A sleeping bag

  • A good pair of comfortable walking boots which are reasonably stiff or

  • Other shoes which have plenty of ankle support. (Sneakers at the campsite)

  • A waterproof jacket (waterproof trousers are advisable)

  • Warm woolen socks 3 pairs

  • A spare set of warm clothes e.g. warm jumper, warm jacket - waterproof

  • Shirts nylon material if available 2 to 3 pairs each

  • Water bottle -1

  • Torch/head lamp -1

  • Warm headgear (malvin)

  • Gloves water proof -1

  • Woolen gloves -1

  • Items necessary to protect you from the sun (Sun glasses, hat or cap, lotion)

  • Hiking poles

  • Camera and good batteries

  • Gutters to keep away loose stones and mud from boots

  • Snacks keep you moving

  • Lip balm

  • Towelettes; individual antibacterial for hygienic purposes

    Thanks for your blog. Kenya is a magnificent place to visit. Climbing Mt Kenya also offers the opportunity to get acclimatized for Kilimanjaro. Your gear list is very helpful for an adventure of a lifetime!

    Thanks for the tips. I have ben thinking about tackling Kilimanjaro for some time and your blog has helped make my mind up.
    I was always worried about taking the right gear on Kilimanjaro trips but thanks to your checklist I should be able to get kitted out and ready to rock. I am sure that it is going to be tough but it is something I just feel that I have got to try while I still can, and being properly equipped will give me a lot more confidence that I can reach the top
